Furthermore, I've installed PEAR on a system with PHP 4.0.6,
although my php executable is a later version (I have little control
over this server, so I had to upload a statically compiled php
executable for the sake of installing PEAR and using the PEAR command).
I haven't done a whole lot with PEAR so far, but DB does appear to be
working so far, at least with my MySQL database.
