Hi,
Ian Warner wrote:
My other questions were regarding a roadmap for PEAR which Lukas kindly answered that there wasn't one. There isn't one because you can't actually create a useful one. PEAR is a loose collection of independent packages, not a framework. Individual packages may have roadmaps, PEAR-the-infrastructure (installer, etc) may also have a roadmap (but you'll sooner get a useful response on a specialized list for infrastructure developers, pear-core: http://pear.php.net/support/lists.php).
I think it would be better if PEAR had a centralised wiki, and if you can point me in the right direction then I don't mind setting this up and managing it.http://cvs.php.net/viewcvs.cgi/pearweb/
I think a forum offers a lot more benefits over a Newsgroup, my opinion, but one that seems to be consistent throughout new projects, I see forums these days more than newsgroups.I think most of the developers will buy into the idea of using forum iff you can setup a two-way gate to the mailing list. In the other case we'll have to monitor *both* forum and mailing list for support questions.
And I don't think that anyone should have to suffer any email like your first one to weed out whether they want to contribute or not, is this some perverted way of initiating people, if they take the crap then they are ok?No, that's just the way I communicate. And my message was tame enough, there was only one particularly sarcastic part, the one that dealt with the "official plan". On the other hand, don't troll like you did in your original message
You state that PEAR is a thriving community, in my eyes that means that help is on hand for newcomers and elder statesmen alike - I have asked several questions recently and also tried to help others out and you are the only one to answer and this wasn't requesting any help on a package, just trying to stimulate debate!if you are uncomfortable with such responses.
