Guys,
Sorry to snip out all of the text but I wanted to focus on the bigger picture.
A framework is a *way* of building something. It's got a set of rules
how to apply bricks for example; you use them in walls, not in
ceilings. You put a sink next to the toilet not in the attic. And so
forth.
Pear consists of *individual* packages that, at most, have
dependencies to PHP extension and/or other Pear packages. There's no
rule that says that you have to use ADODB or DB, you might even go
nostalgic and use native functions; it's up to you.
I fail to see why someone couldn't build a Pear Website Framework
system, distributed in Pear just like anohter package - it would
probably be a huge project to glue together all the individual pieces
(they are fairly losely coupled anyway).
And questions about Wikis and Roadmaps reminds me about a recent job
interview I had where the MD of the company thought Wikis were
WONDERFUL and asked me questions on how to integrate Wikis into his
business. I failed to see why this 18 year old business suddenly
needed a Wiki; I didn't get the job, which I'm quite glad for right
now.
And if you want part of your corporation to pour money into your
project, you probably have to provide something back; draw up a
roadmap so that they can measure if you've failed or not.
And finally, thanks to all the guys on this list; your input is invaluable.
*click* *beeeeeep* (my €0.02 just ran out) :)
