I second this opinion I've used smarty in single page sites and very large applications.

You should still consider Smarty. Smarty is very powerful, but can be used for very small sites as well. It is very easy to learn and allows you to grow in the future. Any suggestions? Many thanks! We use Flexy here. It compiles its templates for performance, supports i18n and the pages can be handled in an OO-way. If you don't need all the features Flexy provides an older and slower but simple template-system is IT(X). lukas
