I keep this sentence in mind :)
First of all, we had a long discussion about the coding standards the last two
weeks. And the point is, your (the PEAR-Developer) experiences with the coding
standard are very good. It helps us, we had a lot of success. The kind of
coding style doesn't matter, it did not decrease creativity. It's just a format
standard to support a fast and efficent reviewing process, which helps to keep
quality on a high level, one of the important points of PEAR. It helps other
developers to understand the code and allows them to extend and improve your
code as easily as possible, an important point of PEAR too.
You have not to be an 'official' PEAR developer and contributer, to profit of
the benefits of the PEAR-Tools and infrastructure. The PEAR-installer isn't
bundled to pear.php.net. You can go to Sourceforge and commit your project. If
you create a package.xml for your package, every user can install it with the
PEAR-installer. You can submit patches to the PEAR-mailinglist, ignoring the
coding standards, when it is usefull we doing the formating stuff for you. So
whats the problem?
