Yes, you are right, this thread has no longer any purpose on this list
as both points of view have been put forward and the maintainer(s) can
choose to ignore one side if they want, it's in their hands.
The only last point I would make is from a different perspective... can
anyone say *why* spaces are better to use than tabs given that the tab
width can be set in almost every editor to an equal setting?
I suspect that will stump quite a few people! :) Answers in private

BTW Karsten you asked if I would like to reformat all my code if someone
doesn't like its format (and I presume that the group agreed to change),
my answer is "No, I wouldn't like it, but I would change it. I don't
believe in restricting a solution because of mistakes in the past,
especially for something which can be fixed by multi-file search and
replace [it would only take a few hours at most to update several
thousand function names]). I seem to be different that way! :)"
