Hi Markus,
Your point is a good one, I have long been a been frustrated at the way
breaking a line of code (always a function declaration/call! :) ) often
results in non-aligned formatting. However I would venture that this
slight aboration is greatly outweighed by the benefits (ease of use and
flexibility) of using tabs instead of spaces to format code.
It's not perfect, perfect would be standard worldwide use of editors
which automatically format the code (like AMOSPro on the Amiga, anyone
remember that? You couldn't write code which didn't conform as it was
automatically formatted as you typed [but it a great way, not a bad way!]),
it is however the best solution available to date that has an
appropriate base of editor support.
I agree the editor can be set to get rid of most of the difference, but
that is building upon a crooked foundation IMO and I just don't do that.
I am very stubborn that way and it has lost me money but I got me
princ-e-pills ya know? ;)
This shouldn't really be on the list though (and we don't really have
much to argue about anyway :) ).
All the best...
Conor
