Stepping lightly into the discussion -- http://php.net/downloads does
offer the PECL collection of binary modules for Windows that were
built simultaneously with the latest release of PHP 5.x. This would
seem to be a safer place to grab your binary extension than linking to
snaps.php.net (which could be broken at any given moment).
The collection of PECL extensions is not an option for PHP 4 at the
moment, however.
I'm not sure how a fake RPM that builds an extension from source
offers much beyond 'pecl install foo'.
The PECL extensions are usually highly visible in search engines due
to the mirroring of php.net all over the place, so if the extension is
documented correctly, it's not hard to find out how to install a given
extension: searching for "install ibm_db2" or "install sdo" turns up
the right hits in Google, for example.
