Thanks all for the feedback. Will discuss internally and get back to the list with an update. > The next steps would be to show the code ( :) ) and request accounts for php's and PECL > web. Sure. At the momemt the code needs a bit of refactoring--- we are working on that in parallel with figuring out these logistical issues. regards, Kannan -----Original Message----- From: Pierre Joye [mailto:pierre.php@gmail.com] Sent: Wednesday, November 26, 2008 2:00 AM To: Kannan Muthukkaruppan Cc: pecl-dev@lists.php.net; Robert Johnson; Changhao Jiang; Venkat Venkataramani; Haiping Zhao; David Fetterman; Brian Shire; Lucas Nealan Subject: Re: [PECL-DEV] interested in open sourcing a PHP profiler hi Kannan, On Wed, Nov 26, 2008 at 1:57 AM, Kannan Muthukkaruppan <Kannan@facebook.com> wrote: > Facebook is interested in open sourcing a hierarchical profiler for PHP that we built in-house > and is being used successfully for both ad-hoc performance debugging of PHP programs and as part of > a system-wide profiling framework (by running the profiler on a sample of pages in production > continually). Do you plane to maintain it in PECL's cvs (moving to SVN in the next 2-3 months)? Doing so will allow you to get much more feedbacks, patches and reviews from the other PHP (core) developers as well as having fixes for new PHP versions very quickly. Using the PECL infrastructure as the main place for your development will provide you automatic windows builds as well (for each release/php branch pair or on demand). It is indeed still possible to announce it in freshmeat or other OSS sites. > b) In terms of license would a Apache 2.0 license or BSD style license be ok? Yes, BSD-like licenses are preferred. The PHP License being our favourite, new BSD or Apache 2.0 are fine as well. > c) Internally we have been calling this PHProf (short for Php Hierarchical PROFiler) for a > while now. As Rasmus said, I would suggest to do not have PHP in its name. The next steps would be to show the code ( :) ) and request accounts for php's and PECL web.
