Failed Install of SVN

Hello all.
I am trying and failing to install the PECL svn package. I am running CentOS 5.3, which comes with PHP 5.1.6. I added a third party repo, rpmforge, which gives me subversion 1.6.2.
I tried running
pecl install -f svn
which reported:
4 source files, building
running: phpize
Configuring for:
PHP Api Version: 20041225 Zend Module Api No: 20050922Zend Extension Api No: 220051025 The configure went without a problem, it was the make that failed. About 30 errors that look similar to this one: /tmp/tmpo0yKMN/svn-0.5.0/svn.c:733: warning: 'svn_client_checkout2' is deprecated (declared at /usr/include/subversion-1/svn_client.h:1080) /tmp/tmpo0yKMN/svn-0.5.0/svn.c: In function 'zif_svn_ls': .... make: *** [svn.lo] Error 1 ERROR: `make' failed Was wondering if anyone has had any success with a similar setup, or some words of advice?
