The m4 note isn't necessary; it only happens if you check out of CVS and
have to rebuild the configuration files - official distributions already
have theirs built on release. A note in the CVS instructions wouldn't go
amiss however.
We are also working on a port for the OpenBSD ports tree which should
mitigate a number of these difficulties, since 4.0.2 will work as a DSO,
with the ltconfig and symbol clash patches (the latter is in CVS atm, so
we're down to one patch)
