Hello PHP/QAT People!
I have spend a good part of my evening vainly trying to
write up a framework plan for the qa team.
In my imagination, the document was brilliant. It was to be
a glorious work of analytical planning so elucidative that
it would be considered the seminal document for organizing
open source quality assurance teams in years to come.
However, I now realize that this was all a hallucination
brought on by far too many consecutive hours of
penguin / daemon wrestling (aka linux and oBSD system
administration)
Here are the sketchiest remains of my ideas... read at your
own caution. :)
The php/qa team has been working together for about 6 weeks.
I think that everyone now has a much better grasp on what
the qa team needs to do.
Some of the people on the team have really shined and I am
very proud of you (as I am sure that everyone else is as
well)
I would like people to step up and take on the roles
outlined below.
Here are the tasks and roles that I believe the QA team
should handle.
The QA team:
Led by the 'All-Seeing Eye' ;) (or eyes for that matter)
they take care of:
Smoke Tests
Full build and install tests
QA Checklists
Regression Tests
Next we have the 'Entomologists'... They take care of:
Bug Tracking
Bug Tracking Application
Bug Hunting
Supporting the QA team and the bug hunters, we have the 'QA
Team Mothers'. They would take care of:
Administration
Organization
Motivation
Advocacy / Evangalism
Other boring Due Diligence issues
And finally, I would like to have a archive/library team
that scours the mailing lists looking for possible bugs,
gleaning useful tips and collection the scattered wisdom of
the developers.
These do not need to be ultra formal teams (At least, I don't
think that they need to be formal :) - just as long as someone
who is talented in whatever area they are in helps keep the work
rolling along, as well as keeping people motivated and interested.)
I would also like for the team leaders to have a nice title that they
can put on their resume :)
Also, I have realized that I am not any good (yet) at
building and installing PHP Release Candidates. I am going
to keep strictly to mothering the QA team and doing the
occasional bug hunt.
Please send your comments and feedback to the list. As
always, these are just ideas. As often happens, it is the
feedback of other, smarter people combined with some time
that will turn them into good ideas.
Now, I am going to go take some painkillers and watch TV
until my brain turns into a loaf of soy cheese. Wish me
luck! See you tomorrow. :)
