Any reason not to implement an XSL module for PHP? How difficult is it? It might even be feasible to implement it as part of PEAR in PHP using the XML support we have right now (or domxml?) BTW, I thought the web browser is supposed to know how to apply XSL style sheets to XML. Andi At 09:37 PM 3/12/00 -0800, Colin Putney wrote:

I'll lay it out nicely: 1) XML file: <some_tag>some_data_in_it</some_tag> <stuff_from_database></stuff_from_database> (notice it's empty) 2) some XSL file defining how the XML data are going to look like 3) I grab data off the database 4) I put'em into the previously left-empty tag, <stuff_from_database> 5) I do the transformation using parser 6) I get HTML, do some more magic on it 7) I finally display this to client That sounds perfectly reasonable to me. I theory, you could use Xalan from the Apache XML project to do your stylesheet transformations. You'd have to use Mr. Ruby's Java module to get at the Xalan classes, and that too is theoretically possible. Getting it to actually work in practice is the catch. Sounds like a really neat project... have fun! :) Colin ---------------------------------------------
