This may sound strange but with me only configure --with-apxs=/path/to/apxs --with-mysql worked. I have mysql in /usr/local/mysql too. Only one more thing mysql was running in background, I don't now if this is importante but when I tried this I was desperated :))))) I hope this help. Fernando Silva
