That is always a risk when employing external services; on the other
hand is Joind.in a mature and stable product that has been around since
2009. It is ran by Lorna and supported by people such as Rob Allen,
Chris Cornutt, Stefan Koopmanschap, myself and other OSS fanatics.
In addition; several of the users promoted on php.net already have an
account with Joind.in (DPC, PHPUK, PHPNW, etc) and are now posting their
event twice. Where if php.net were to adopt joind.in this would be
simpler for them.

I see no issue with this as Joind.in is meant to promote all kinds of
events. To be on the safe side I have relayed this question to Lorna to
get a decisive answer.
By the way: an additional benefit would be that Joind.in also has an
Android and iPhone app and is able to reach a larger audience that way
and as such provide services even during events.
