Hello, Short intro: I've authored (full or partial) PHP implementations of XPath, DOM, SOAP, WSDL and XML Schema. I've always thought the lack of standard XML APIs was one of PHP's biggest shortcomings, so I'm very happy this list exists! My $.02 on a couple of things: I really like the simple xml api idea. I also think it should be an option alongside DOM, etc, not replacing it. Regarding bundling: I think that if this new extension is not bundled *and* built by default, than it may as well not exist to the legion of PHP developers who do all their work in mass-hosting environments, or cannot add new extensions for whatever reason. I have never used DOMXML or XSLT extensions for serious projects because I want my code to be re-usable, and cannot count on those extensions being available. I had to write my own userland solutions because it's a nightmare trying to get a web host to build new extensions into PHP (usually takes months, if it ever happens). To summarize: If the new extension isn't going to bundled *and* built in, then I don't think it will change the landscape at all for XML development in PHP. btw, Sterling and Chregu, I've always tracked your projects and list comments, and appreciate your PHP/XML work, and am so stoked that you guys are working on this! -dietrich
