I don't dislike CPAN because of its complexity. I dislike
CPAN because it fails to work in some many incomprehensible
ways. It is not reliable. For example, one of my boxes will
go into a tight loop when I want to install a package foo and
the CPAN modules tries to upgrade itself. It notices that a
new Perl version is also available, it downloads it and tries
to compile it. The build breaks for some weird reason and
then it goes on and on. Until you manually kill it.
