    This is IMHO not such an important change that it would
    warrant not releasing a stable and working 4.0.1. The new
    code needs to be tested publicly. That means that I want to
    commit it and give users a couple of weeks to test it.

What Zeev meant is that if the change doesn't go into 4.0.1 we should roll back to the 4.0.0 behavior of it being an error. It will be too confusing for it to work in one mini-version of PHP. Andi --- Andi Gutmans <andi@zend.com> http://www.zend.com/
