Are you using require() a lot? I think in big scripts that did lots of require()'s the old "fast" method ended up being substantially slower. This could explain the performance difference. Also in case you were doing lots and lots of eval()'s there was also a related memory leak patch which could have also effected your servers performance. Is it possibly one of these two? There's no script you can post that gives you much better performance under 4.0.2 than it did under 4.0.1? I can think about just one change we've made that can improve performance, but otherwise, I can't think of anything that would come even close to making such a significant performance increase. You mean Zak worked on performance? Zak? :)
Sorry, it was waldschrott that said it was a duplicate bug and being worked on: http://bugs.php.net/bugs.php?id=5921
Something along the lines of 1000% improvement has to be a result of a major improvement in the scripting engine, and I don't recall making any revolutionary changes in Zend. What kind of script did you test? Can you post a couple of benchmarks with their results under 4.0.1 and 4.0.2RC1?
Stas and Nettie have an idea of what I'm testing. A quick method of showing improved performance is now I've lowered the max_execution_time to 30 back from 60. I had to have it at 60 because 4.0.1 took so long. Now the scripts execute under the alloted time. Something was fixed. I'm not sure, but it's working much better. The environment hasn't changed. Thanks, Brad Atkins

Hey, it doesn't make much sense, but it's much better :) I didn't notice any fixes going through it, although I heard that I
think
Zak was working on it. But it's fixed. Dunno about ISAPI yet though. Thanks, Brad Atkins
Wow. That doesn't make much sense :) Zeev On Sat, 26 Aug 2000, Brad Atkins wrote:
I just compiled 4.0.2 RC1 as CGI and the performance has been
GREATLY
improved on the Windows platform.
Scripts now execute in 90% less time. Excellent work! Brad Atkins
