Hmm... I'm intrigued. Where's this leading to?
Are you attempting to write some form of wrapper to ease the migration of
Perl/ASP/whatever users to PHP, or are you simply forcing the PHP language
constructs and call names to adjust to your personal preferences rather than
vice-versa?
(ie: Is the next topic going to be along the lines of 'Wouldn't it be neat
if function aliases could re-map function argument ordering?'.)
Of course, I'm probably way off topic here - it's most likely
'none-of-the-above'.
