It would be nice if the two extensions have an API that looks somewhat similar.
But, if this is not possible, we could try to use the best parts of both library's
in one extension. If one of the library's is not found during ./configure, the
functions of that library are not enabled then.

I totaly agree with you. Sablotron is not 100% conformant (and has some flaws),
and Xalan-C++ is in alpha stage too.
