I once saw on a book of friend of mine that PHP actually stays for Personal HomePage which was then changed ... (as many of us already wrote here) however.. the real reason (book says) not to have it so "Translatable" it's because the language is dedicated to neo-programmers, since php is one of the simplest pr. languages ever invented. So all those programmers will finally find what PHP is the best for in this new electronic era and will then associate the right definition to this three letters. Sweet isn't it? I tell a lot of people that php is great and good and fast and effizent to make a web-site. All that stuff. The next question I always get is: "Okay, what does 'PHP' mean exactly ?". Even "non-computer-people" know that HTML means "HyperText Markup Language". But what the hell does PHP mean ? ;-) The manual (http://www.php.net/manual/preface.php) says: PHP stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor" which seems a bit stupid, since "Hypertext Preprocessor" doesn't start with a P ;-) Or is it a kind of a (funny ? nonsense ? intelligent ?) rekursion that PHP really stands for "PHP Hypertext Preprocessor" ? A book I got through my fingers says: PHP means "Personal Home Page", which sounds good, too. A lot of people try to make something like "Pretty Hypertext Preprocessor" or something like that. So.... what should I tell people who ask me ? ;-)) Martin -- PHP General Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) To unsubscribe, e-mail: php-general-unsubscribe@lists.php.net For additional commands, e-mail: php-general-help@lists.php.net To contact the list administrators, e-mail: php-list-admin@lists.php.net
