It's so funny that just 24 ours ago Martin asked that innocent yet so
amazingly curious question: what is PHP..
and we, gurus, haven't stopped to talk about it yet...
kewl, love this mailing list...

Subject: [PHP] What means PHP ? ;-)
Hello !
I tell a lot of people that php is great and good and fast and effizent
to make a web-site. All that stuff. The next question I always get is:
"Okay, what does 'PHP' mean exactly ?". Even "non-computer-people"
know
that HTML means "HyperText Markup Language".
But what the hell does PHP mean ? ;-)
The manual (http://www.php.net/manual/preface.php) says:
PHP stands for "PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor"
which seems a bit stupid, since "Hypertext Preprocessor" doesn't start
with a P ;-) Or is it a kind of a (funny ? nonsense ? intelligent ?)
rekursion that PHP really stands for "PHP Hypertext Preprocessor" ?
A book I got through my fingers says:
PHP means "Personal Home Page", which sounds good, too.
A lot of people try to make something like "Pretty Hypertext
Preprocessor" or something like that.
So.... what should I tell people who ask me ? ;-))
Martin
