Most search engines do not discriminate on the basis of suffix, except to rule out file types that don't have indexable text (e.g. .gif). These engines would still index .php3, .asp, etc. But it's also true that most engines screen out URLs that have GET arguments (e.g www.mysite.com/mypage.php?user=4), on the theory that the content is dynamic, and so probably won't be around at the same URL tomorrow. This is unfortunate, because using a scripting language + arguments can be a good way to create a complex site even if the site ends up being static (i.e. the same url + the same arguments always produces the same content). --tim On Wed, 04 Oct 2000 18:44:47 -0400, michael@tapinternet.com wrote: > The words 'hogwash' spring to mind, but that's just me. > > *easy* way to test this is to simply search for 'index.php3' > on a few search engines - I tried google, altavista and excite, > for example, and in the result sets they returned, there were > inevitably some URLs that had 'index.php3' or some other 'dynamic' > ending to them. > > They seem to be wanting to get you to agree to them redoing > your pages in a 'search engine' friendly manner.
