imagecreatefromjpeg: "No JPEG support in this php build"

Hello, I've been wrestling with different compile options trying to get the subject message to go away whenever I try to use the imagecreatefromjpeg function.. It appears that I was supposed to compile with gd support so I tried that but couldn't seem to find the directory where my gd library is installed (redhat 6.2). I was hoping just compiling php with --with-gd would be enough but I guess not. This is with php 4.0.2, gd 1.3-6, apache 1.3.12. There was also a user comment on the php manual page for imagecreatefromjpeg that suggested using --with-jpeg-dir but that didn't seem to help either. Thanks! -Marc-
