I think that the point which has remained unsaid on this thread (unless I've
been stupid and missed it) is that there are two categories of dynamic
website to consider.
Websites that are dynamically generated can either have a finite or an
infinite number of pages. In general, if all the user can do is click on
links, then there's a finite number of pages, and if they can type stuff in,
then there's an infinite number of pages.
If a website falls into the former category, it can be captured by a spider
and (if it's not too big) placed as static html on a CDROM.
In my experience, many sites fall into this category, and for all the jobs
of this nature I've had to do, I've only had to turn off the search
facility.
The spider I use for this (as reported in Richard's attachment) is HTTrack
available for various platforms free from www.httrack.com
