I see no reason why some spam prevention measures can't be taken.
As a note, I didn't catch earlier discussions... all I found on the archives
was this:
"Well, there's a variety of options, all of which are good ideas (if not
done already) for fighting spam:
1. Only allow posts from subscriber addresses only."
