Apache cannot find the dynamic php module that you compiled, either because it isn't where it should be, or because it's not listed in your httpd.conf.
I have had trouble with using DSO's and php, so i just compile it all statically :)

Try adding /etc/httpd/modules to /etc/ld.so.conf and run ldconfig as root. See if that fixes the problem. wdc> Lee Howard
