Jim, From reading this group I understand there's a bug in the RedHat RPm for MySQL. I strongly urge you to compile from source. There's an excellent article at www.devshed.com entitled the Soothingly Seamless Setup of Apache, MySQL and PHP. Trust me, it isn't difficult, and very worthwhile. At a minimum you will know where everything is. Have a look through the php-install archives. The link is on the PHP home page, I think it's something like mechanic.net, but I'm not sure.
