The RPM installs do -not- place files in the same directories as the "make install" versions (from source.) When you ./configure you can post options to modify this. (./configure --help) You need to compile PHP with mySQL enables, and I recommend transid as well. Then, if you're not running PHP as a DSO, you have to recompile Apache to use PHP as well. (again, ./configure --help in the apache source tree) In my case, I recompiled PHP, Apache, and mySQL from scratch. As was posted earlier, RPMs are nice for a few quick and easy installs but really, it's better to do it yourself.
