Can someone tell me the differance between: php-4.0.1pl2 QUICK INSTALL (Static) and QUICK INSTALL (DSO) I need advice on which one to install with. Apache 1.3.12 MySql mysql-3.22.32 PHP php-4.0.1pl2 ThanksI am going through the very same thing. I spent most of yesterday trying to get it installed and working. I am using Redhat 6.2 and notice that the instructions on the php site refer to php3, has anything changed? Is it simply a matter of switching a 4 for 3 in every case? Is there any difference in the install? Well, I wish they would change it but I used the instructions found in the php 4 distribution (php-4.0.1pl2). I decided to go with "Static" and was able to get Apache to update but php does not work. There are a few things in the instructions I do no understand or want to reconfirm, please excuse my ignorance since I am just starting on Linux: 1) In the Lasso install on RedHat 6.2 what is the value for "PREFIX" used in $ ./configure --prefix=/PREFIX --activate-module=src/modules/php4/libphp4.a Is this where Redhat expects the final Apache application to be installed or is it the location of the source files? 2) The quick instructions say: "make (you should now have an httpd binary which you can copy to your Apache bin dir) cd ../php-4.0.x cp php.ini-dist /usr/local/lib/php.ini" Is this line showing my how to copy the httpd binary? Is "php.ini" a httpd binary? If not, how do I copy the httpd binary and where does it go on RedHat? 3) As far as I can tell the conf/httpd.conf file requires the following lines only when I am using the DSO install:
LoadModule php4_module modules/libphp4.soAddModule mod_php4.c The following line is needed in both cases? AddType application/x-httpd-php .php Is that correct for static I don't need LoadModule and AddModule? Thanks for help on any of these. -- _/ _/ _/ _/ Michael Collins _/ _/ _/ Equinox Enterprises _/ _/ Seattle, WA, USA _/ mcollins206@home.com
