I am going through the very same thing. I spent most of yesterday trying to get it installed and working. I am using Redhat 6.2
cp php.ini-dist /usr/local/lib/php.ini"Where does the httpd binary get built to (the directory location)? Where I have the source files? I put them at: /usr/local/etc/apache_1.3.1 BTW, is that where source files are normally stored? Do you know what the expected destination is on RedHat? I currently have Apache installed and it will run when started (I stopped Apache before trying to build). I take it that the process of doing a static build of php4 causes my Apache installation to be replaced as well? I realize by binary you mean it is compiled, but not sure if you are meaning a directory of executables or the one file? Sorry I am such a newbie. I run a find command for httpd to figure out where to move the binary to: find / -name 'httpd*' -type f /var/lock/subsys/httpd /var/run/httpd.pid /usr/doc/mod_perl-1.21/eg/httpd.conf.pl /usr/lib/apache/httpd.exp /usr/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i386-linux/Apache/httpd_conf.pm /usr/man/man8/httpd.8.gz /usr/include/apache/httpd.h /usr/sbin/httpd /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf find / -name 'httpd*' -type d /var/log/httpd /var/cache/httpd /etc/httpd /home/httpd OK, if I don't consider the ones that don't seem to be the http referred to, I am left wondering if it is supposed to be a directory of files that would go to: /etc/httpd or is it just this one executable file? /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd Is that the one?Is this line showing my how to copy the httpd binary? Not, this is showing you how to copy you php.ini file into place. To copy your httpd binary, use: cp httpd <destination>
Is that correct for static I don't need LoadModule and AddModule? That's correct. But I would suggest you use the dynamic build. You will have less problems upgrading and adding new features, etc.Well, I have already tried to build it using the static method and it says in the instructions to not to both. So do I build the static again using the --with-layout=RedHat option, or remove all of the previously installed static files and then build with the dynamic process? How do I delete/uninstall/unbuild the static files? If I am also trying to install MySQL (to interoperate with php) should I be doing that first?
