They use a MySQL database on a server that we didn't - last time I checked - have access to.
All their checking's done there before anything goes into the phpdoc notes db. Note: their checking isn't that good, I have better ways.
I've no idea what happens regards that MySQL db and backup, there's no way for me to know. Everything is based there, a bunch of stuff comes out of it indirectly and is used on the sites.
Fine, so they use a Mysql database. Do they keep a backup of it? What "new way" are you proposing?I'm really not sure, because the more I think about it the dodgier it seems to have a writable directory above the doc root on the webserver... You know way more about php.net systems than I do, can you come up with a sane compromise? (The only ways I've used sqlite up to now have been for automated updates from a single source.) - Steph

On it, but need your input. Where's the 'live version' going is the biggest problem - the backup can be on the work server, but we need a dir with write permissions on the website (aka 'above the docroot') and I don't have the ability to create that. You do. Let me know when it's there and where it is.
