Help on setting up local search support

I set up everything (?) according to the mirroring-search.php page.
Installed htdig, moved the files to the necessary locations,edited the
virtualhost changed htdig.conf and run rundig.
In the virtualhost I put:
SetEnv HTSEARCH_PROG /usr/local/htdig/bin/htphp.sh
SetEnv HTSEARCH_EXCLUDE "/print/ /printwn/ /manual/howto/ /cal.php"
The paths are correct.
What is the role of php.conf anyway?
Should it be appended to htdig.conf?
When I try to run a test I get results ch.php.net and not my mirror.
Any help would be appreciated.
