Wez don't get upset...
I can understand that this is an open source project and I appreciate
the hard work done by all the people involved in the project.
I'm afraid that people will start complaining about the search results
that are not efficient. Like Shimi said it would take sometime but it
will work later on.
I can't offer a patch because right now we are discussing what is the
best way of implementing the search engine.
Yes I agree with you that we should get the load of the main server and
put some on the mirror because the mirrors are actually useless right
now (and so is mine).
But I would suggest the following:
1. Goba's idea of putting a dedicated box for a search engine
2. Simply distribute the search to the mirrors that provide local search
support (instead of having just ca.php.net - I believe it was called
like that)
The dedicated box has a problem that somebody has to offer it and I'm
afraid it will take forever (just like the European rsync server that it
was finally droped as an idea).
The distribution of the searches to the mirrors I believe is something
simple to do.
Those are just thoughts and doesn't mean that I'm complaining. I'm just
trying to help...

At least you can access the content from the site; this change was
*required* in order to maintain service without the hardware blowing up.
I don't think you appreciate the effort that has gone into this, or by
how many people, over the last 24 hours alone ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS.
Now, we can refine the situation, but it will take time and effort; just
be patient.
Even better; phpweb is opensource, why don't you stop complaining and
instead put some effort into submitting a patch to make things work
nicely?
