I see your point. However, instead of remembering 100 functions, you have to remember 100 ways of calling imagick_filter(). For instance, convert, mogrify, etc. are wrappers around the individual functions within the ImageMagick code. But, remembering all the command lines arguments to convert and mogrify is pretty tough.....they are powerful and therefore have extensive documentation. Quite frankly, I believe most users are going to use imagick for things like reading an image, converting an image, resizing an image and writing an image. That's 4 functions that need to be remembered versus having to dig into one function called imagick_filter() and understanding everything you need to pass to it. I see the advantages and disadvantages to both.
