Hi,
I am getting a bit worried about the current way pear development is
handled.
Its very hard to follow what packages are being proposed, accepted and
for what reasons.
But that is not the biggest problem IMHO.
The biggest problem is that we have been lowering our expectations.
A lot of developers are adding packages like mad. And I think the
biggest problem are actually long standing developers. Most of their
packages are accepted with minimal fuss. Because we *know* their code is
good. While that may be the case we should still try to enforce the rule
that packages that do the same should at least have a different concept
to how they achieve that. And if that is not the case people should
merge with existing packages.
I think it is vital that we don't let ourselves we overwhelmed by so
many packages. We have to remember that if the maintainer disappears and
none of the other developers takes over we will get all sorts of bad
publicity for PEAR. Also it just takes more work in the long run and
confuses the userbase.

Lukas Smith
