Hi,
I followed this list for a while, to see how the PEAR process is working and
what the "quality" of development will be. To this moment I am a bit
disappointed. As I've read the PEAR website and how contribute website to
PEAR, I would totally agree with Alexey, although the way he got there was
not very nice.
If somebody complies to all the 4 steps written on
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/developers.contributing.php
and has done steps
one to three on
http://pear.php.net/manual/en/developers.contributing.howto.php
, He has
followed the process.
It NOWHERE says you have to get along with all the developers. Naturally
discussions can occur on functionality, compatibility and other issues, but
that's where discussions are for. One thing I am missing on the counterpart
in the discussion: "The urge to develop". Step 2 says, Extensible and
"forward-compatible" code.
I've seen a lot of defensive reactions from PEAR members stating "this would
break BC", "this package has to be stable" or just "No". In that case, I
don't see where you can carry the title "developer" or "member of a
development team". The development process should include all steps like
planning, writing, documenting, testing and maintaining.
Good luck,
Klaasjan Tukker
