Of course I am not new to oss development, this is just another FUD piece that
was thrown at me.
Its good that you remembered Postgres: its development goes forward so well
because its developers focus on adding things instead of preserving the
Sacred Backwards Compatibility. There are drawbacks, like you should be
insane to upgrade a production system to a new major version without testing
it first, but still Postgres is the best open source RDBMS.
And no, I never had to use this kind of attitude on Postgres mailing lists,
but thats because I've yet to see its developer "reviewing" the patches for 5
months and/or saying something other than "thanks" on patch proposal (of
course, the patch can be rejected later if it's not good enough).
I did use similar attitude when I was translating phpBB, by the way. The
developers were all English-speaking and did localization stuff in such a way
that it was impossible to translate it. After it was pointed out to them (not
only by me) they re-did it and everything went OK. That's the difference:
either the developers want to get the job done and endure the attitude, or
they don't want it done and pretend to be deeply offended.
