I'll coordinate w/ Daniel. What's the PEAR standard for this --
::getInstance() when there could be more than one instance (based on DSN) or
::singleton()?
Horde uses singleton(), but I like getInstance() as being a little more
intuitive to people that may not know the pattern name.
