well you are both right. PEAR::Tree supports different backends and also different ways of saving a tree in the DB. One is as nestedSets and the other is using the parent_id approach as Jeroen does it. Currently it supports the following: NestedSet ... we all know that :-) parent-id approach (called Simple) XML ... nothing to say about this Array ... a tree which comes from a proprietrary array structure Filesystem ... a tree reading the Directory structure i think that's it for now ...Well, does it make sense to merge this stuff into PEAR::Tree ? I haven't looked at the code yet (will do that next), but perhaps any advantages in NestedSet could be merged into DB and MDB drivers for PEAR::Tree? I don't know if there's a big performance hit to using this more abstract class -- but I'd assume not, providing that it's architected such that only the stuff that's used needs to be included / parsed. (And I understand that the whole tree does not need to be loaded into memory.) Hans
