Hello Jeroen,
basically what I use it for is to create a filesystem type system in a database. Users can create folders (I call them sections) with an unlimited number an subfolders. With PEAR::Tree I can easily read a tree starting from a specific folder and display it in a javascript menu (not HTML_TreeMenu, but similar). So if I understand correctly, DB_NestedSet is for nested sets (duh!) and perhaps PEAR::Tree is for "my" way of storing trees, using a plain "id -> parent_id" structure. Did I explain myself properly?
No - Tree supports different backends (like XML) including NestedSets (it's the dynamic driver I think)
well you are both right. PEAR::Tree supports different backends and also different ways of saving a tree in the DB. One is as nestedSets and the other is using the parent_id approach as Jeroen does it. Currently it supports the following: NestedSet ... we all know that :-) parent-id approach (called Simple) XML ... nothing to say about this Array ... a tree which comes from a proprietrary array structure Filesystem ... a tree reading the Directory structure i think that's it for now ... -- Wolfram ... opensource @ vision:produktion ... http://opensource.visionp.de ... authentication system .... http://sf.net/projects/auth
