+1 on the package -1 on the name The reason is that PDB files are Protein Data Bank files traditionally. That naming precedes the PalmDB files by several decades, as the PDB repository has been around since 1972 ;-), for more info, see http://www.rcsb.org/. A better name would be: File_Palm_PDB That way it will not be confused w/ the File_RCSB_PDB (if someone ever takes the PDB parser from my Science_Chemistry class and makes such a package). There is also BioPHP that might use something like that, and will be confusing to have just File_PDB IMHO. Finally, there a lot of libs and tools around that use File_PDB for the PDB structure files, e.g.: http://bridgedec.chess.cornell.edu/ccp4/libcheck.html I would also suggest looking at the low level functions implemented by PocketC (by Orbworks): http://www.orbworks.com/pcpalm/index.html That C compiler/interpreter works on a Palm, has a nice API for dealing with Palm database files, and is great for quick hacking of little apps. I've used it for several programs I released ages ago (back in '98 or so). BTW, the URL Krystof gave produces a "403 Forbidden" when I try to see it. --- Krystof Slaby <krystof.slaby@seznam.cz> wrote: > hello, > > I'd like to propose new package: File_PDB. > AS the name tells it would end in File category. > > PDB is format of Palm DB databases stored outside PalmOS (PCs > mainly). > The class is does lower-level IO (reads/writes the 'database') and > the extending classes do higher-level stuff - like those for > addressbook (Address internal app) or datebook (DateBook internal > app) or PalmDOC (palm text 'file' format). > > I'm not the lead developer, only pearifying the code. > I want to come through the package proposal machinery with this > package, but the last word before comitting 1.0 version has the main > developer of course which I'm in touch with. > The fundamental issues will be redirected to main dveloper (Tyler > Atkins). > > Most of the sources will be available at > http://camelot.lf2.cuni.cz/krysot/krysot/php-pdb/. > > Awaiting comments and (+1/-1)s. > > krysot > ===== -- Jesus M.
