Hmm, okay. I think different. There are already enough ideas that
should be sorted out for a first step. Agreed this is not the final
solution yet - but it starts getting a bit chaotic.

Yes and no. We're not in a hurry for a concrete solution (although
the problem came up with MDB 1.x => 2.0 which is just before a new
major release). But I think if we find a solution that maintains BC
for the moment we might soon release a PEAR 1.3 or 1.4 that
implements the new structure and still allows the old to be used as
well. The sooner we get this out the sooner it can and will be
adopted by maintainers / programmers. And as soon as the majority
fixed their packages / programs we can launch 2.0 and drop all the
old "burdens".

Agreed. But it's getting too much traffic on this list. Weren't there
already enough ideas / solutions on the list? I just thought maybe it
would be the right time that the pear-group discusses this internally
and gives some feedback which ideas should further be followed and
which should be dropped.
In one email was said "I hope you still know who said what where" -
but I don't anymore :-)) Sure, the ideas are present - but I can't
say that I have a real view of how many / which people are in favour
of which solution etc.
