Why not keep the current directory structure for all packages that already are released and switch to a new Package/VersionNumber/Package.php only for yet to be released packages or new major versions.
I will not actively participate in the discussion, as I already have way too much to do, so just one comment: Generally I don't like having multiple versions of the same package, but obviously that's what people want and obviously that will solve a lot problems. Jan's suggestion sounds nice, but I expect that we will not have MDB/1.0/MDB.php MDB/1.1/MDB.php MDB/2.0/MDB.php but instead MDB/1.0/MDB.php MDB/2.0/MDB.php , right?
Correct, only major versions. Seeing as anything between 1.0.0 and 1.99.99 should be all completely compatible API wise. - Davey
