The XML_RPC php implementation is bundled from ages with PEAR in php
distros. If the extenstion does not exist, the php version is used.
Do you have XML_RPC installed? Which pear version are you using?
At least clean up the pear install (if installed from whatever rpms
around) and install a fresh one using go-pear
