Hmm - can't say which damn-old version of pear came with php. RedHat 9.0 ships with php 4.2.0 *sigh* and I guess the pear-installer is of similar age. As said, go-pear did the trick - and now it runs smooth. Sorry for bugging you fellows. PS: Hmm - didn't go-pear solve some problems for other people on this list as well some time ago?
