This is the line of reasoning I'm afraid of. PEAR will quickly be adopting hungarian notation, by adding one character per attribute of the var, with the argument that "it is hardly this character that will be a hassle". Hungarian notation is inneficient. What you're looking for in hungarian notation is much better provided by a half-decent IDE. And if there are no decent IDEs for remote usage, by all means write one, instead of forcing everyone to prefix var names. Following this path, someday PEAR code may start to look like Microsoft Visual Studio-generated gibberish. Cheers, Sérgio
