For the record:
I think this is a non issue. I find the underscore to be convinient, little effort to do, and not such a dramatic uglifier of my code. Then again while I am debugging my code locally in php5 I will be able to quickly make out if I screwed up. if this is going to help me while doing emergency repairs on a remote host is another question ..?
Eitherway I dont see the drama. Its just something to agree upon and move on. Anyone who abandons PEAR because of that is just looking for excuses.
I have a more important concern that Klaus already brought up:
The status quo does not change automatically if a new PHP major version is released. Thats a rediculous suggestion. If this change is so obvious it shouldnt be hard to get a corresponding RFC through.
