Looking at what linux distro's ship with it should be pretty obvious that most people are still on PHP4. http://distrowatch.com/search.php?pkg=php&pkgver=5.0#pkgsearch Out of the big distro's, only Fedora Core 4 and Suse 9.3 (but not 10 which has 4.4) are shipping 5, everything else is on 4 -josh
The top 10 list is: [1] 1. Ubuntu Linux 2. Mandriva Linux 3. Fedora Core 4. SUSE LINUX 5. Debian GNU/Linux 6. MEPIS Linux 7. Gentoo Linux 8. Slackware Linux 8. Knoppix 10. Xandros Desktop From these PHP5 is distributed by all but MEPIS, Slackware, Knoppix and Xandros [2]. Knoppix is a Debian, so a disk install of Knoppix does provide PHP5; It's just not the default on the CD. Slackware includes PHP5 under /testing which probably causes distrowatch to miss it. MEPIS and Xandros are newbie oriented, and probably not found in server environments. Not that I advocate wide php 5 distribution as a good measure of adoption, namely on server environments, but I prefer records being straight.
